SHOEMAKERS WITH OVER 40 YEARS’ EXPERIENCE

1974

Frank van Wezel, current owner and chairman of Duca del Cosma, founded footwear brands Hi-Tec and Magnum. Frank’s love for sport led him to build a revolutionary squash shoe, which went on to sell over 22 million pairs in one sole style, in one sole colour.

During the 40 years that Frank led his companies, Hi-Tec and Magnum reached over USD 250 million in sales in more than 85 countries. Hi-Tec become industry-leaders in footwear and apparel styles for a number of sports including golf.

 

 

   

1989

Frank van Wezel’s Hi-Tec begins sponsorship of golfing legend Ian Woosnam. In the years that follow, Ian achieved 46 worldwide victories, reaching world Number One ranking. In addition to captaining the Ryder Cup, Ian became the first European to earn more than a million dollars in one season whilst wearing Hi-Tec golf shoes.

 

 

2004

Duca del Cosma was established by Italian designer Baldovino Mattiazzo, a graduate of Sarteco Fashion School in Florence, and his German wife Antje Elle.

Both passionate golf players, they decided to reshape the concept of golf fashion – merging Italian design with German precision.

  

 

2006

Duca del Cosma introduces the spikeless golf shoe, a breakthrough non-slip outsole enabling wear both on and off the golf course.

   

 

2006

In the 36th Ryder Cup, Team Europe captain Ian Woosnam leads the team to their third consecutive victory, a first for Team Europe. Both Ian and Team Europe member Padraig Harrington wear Hi-Tec golf shoes.

2008

Irish golfer Padraig Harrington wins his third major championship, the 2008 PGA Chamionship, in Hi-Tec golf shoes, following Open Championship wins in 2007 and 2008.

 

2016

Frank and Caroline van Wezel acquired Duca del Cosma in 2016, following the sale of Frank’s shares in his footwear brands Hi-Tec and Magnum.

Having admired Duca del Cosma for many years and recognising international interest in the brand, Frank decided to apply his golf shoe industry expertise to making Duca del Cosma a global success.

 

 

 

2018

Duca del Cosma begins sponsorship of the Dutch KLM Open, an annual part of the European Tour schedule since its inauguration in 1972.

  

2020

Duca del Cosma is now represented in 30 countries worldwide. In 2020 so far, the company has opened offices in the UK, USA and South Africa, as well as a new head office in Breukelen, the Netherlands.

Duca del Cosma shoes continue to receive awards, mostly recent the Golf Digest Best Golf Shoes of 2020.
